Steele wants to attract a "younger, hipper, and more diverse" voter base to the GOP

It will be interesting to see where the Republican party is going with Steele.

Years back, the powers that be determined Country Music needed to be changed in order to make it more "palatable" to younger, hipper, and diverse audiences. It worked, as far as changing the genre as it is frequently hard to find the line dividing pop rock and country. They both seem to have the same skinny, bimbos singing the same sounding songs.

But, the powers that be did re-make country music into something that was acceptable to a younger, hipper, and diverse audience and thus they improved sales.

Problem is-mainstream country music is no longer country music. It is just another form of soft, pop rock.

The powers that be wanted to bring ice-skating to a younger, hipper, and more diverse audience.  So skating shows now have live bands and singers at the events.

Watching ice skating shows is now annoying as hell and I don't care to watch them.  And apparently the powers that be did not manage to attract the younger, hipper, and more diverse audience anyway.

Now Republican national chairman Michael Steele wants to remake the GOP so the party can attract a younger, hipper, and more diverse voter base. “We are not monolithic in our thought,” Steele said. “There is a diversity of opinion that can be expressed on economics, health care, on policies that affect us directly. That’s why I’m here, that opportunity to bring my party to the community.”

A political party is not an entertainment genre.  People belong to a political party based upon political, social, and fiscal core beliefs.  Beliefs such as the amount of power a government should possess or the amount of social engineering a government should engage in. Does power derive from inherent rights or through government created laws? Are talents and hard work to be rewarded or do we strive for a "level playing field" in all aspects of life, whether earned or not?

Attracting new voters can be achieved by publicizing the party philosophy and planks; dispelling old notions and falsehoods that continue to make their rounds. Get the party back to the core values that had made the GOP strong; get rid of the RINOs (Republican in Name Only) in power that have made a shambles of our current party platform.  The RINOs have essentially betrayed the party values voting for non-Republican agendas such as the massive bailouts, increased federal debt, and the Stimulus plans.

Steele said. “I know some of you don’t want me there, I know some of you are going to yell at me, but I’m coming anyway.”  This is one of the common falsehoods that need to be dispelled and he is guilty of spreading it-that of African-Americans not being welcome in the Republican party.  As far as I am concerned he is welcome to come and if he needs help-I'll be there.

A sad reality is in order to bring in the "younger, hipper, more diverse (and cooler) voter base, the party will probably have to sacrifice those tenets that distinguish Republicans from Democrats.  If a voter or potential voter does not support or can not support the basic planks of the Republican party platform, then why would they join the Republican party?

Let us hope after we remake the Republican party into "one that is younger and more diverse, even cool" and by bringing "my party to the community" we do not forever change the party and lose the political philosophies that created the GOP.
