Fire Mountain; Israels National training Center

The United States Army has the National training Center (NTC) at Fort Irwin, California and the Israelis have Fire Mountain, an Arabic town recreated on an Israeli military post located near Gaza according to Israel National News.

This is where activated reservists learn the intricate skills needed for urban warfare; in other words, Gaza.  These are skills that will be sorely needed and tested if Israel moves into Phase III of the war in Gaza, a very real possibility given both Israel and Hamas have rejected the Egyptian/French peace proposal and a UN call for a ceasefire.

Phase III would involve a full push into the heart of the Gaza strip, into the alleys, crowded streets and neighborhoods.  Israeli aircraft dropped thousands of leaflets over Gaza on Saturday warning residents of an increase in operations.

According to INN, "The war effort is reaching another critical stage: Israel's leaders will decide whether to intensify the counter terrorist campaign to "stage three" or to wind down the fighting while diplomats agree to a ceasefire, which both Israel and Hamas have rejected so far.

"Either reach a cease-fire in two to three days, or start a big military operation that will take at least two weeks," former National Security Council director Major-General Giora Eiland was quoted as saying in the TIME article. "We've been beating around the bush for a week, and we need to make a decision now."

Time also has a story on Fire Mountain.
