Carter to meet with officials in Beirut

President Carter with Arafat
Former President Carter, is again playing the role of an unofficial ambassador for the United States, this time he will be in Beirut. He is scheduled to arrive Tuesday for talks with Lebanese officials.
Nor has he ruled out talks with Hezbollah leaders. Carter's press secretary Deanna Congileo told CNSNews.com that his schedule had not been finalized. "We are in contact with major parliamentary blocs, and we anticipate meeting with almost all", she stated when asked if President Carter would meet with Hezbollah leaders.
Hezbollah, a proxy of Iran has been declared a terrorist organization by the United States, Israel, Canada, England, Australia, and even the Netherlands. Readers should remember in May of 2008 Hezbollah invaded Beirut, crushing and humiliating the followers of Lebanon's main Sunni political leader Saad Hariri, forcing his television off the air, and burning his TV archives building. Since then, the sectarian rift has widened. Its leaders were inspired by Ayatollah Khomeini, and its forces were trained and organized by a contingent of Iranian Revolutionary Guards. Hezbollah leaders have also made numerous statements calling for the destruction of Israel, which they refer to as a "Zionist entity.
In his book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, Carter argues that the primary obstacle to Middle East peace is "Israel's continued control and colonization of Palestinian land." In a two day conference of human rights activists, Carter said the "persecution of Palestinians" and lack of US commitment to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict remains one of the most volatile issues in the Muslim world.

The United States just doesn't need any more self proclaimed diplomats meeting with our enemies and organizations that have been declared terrorist organizations by our government. Isn't it about time this tired old man retires from his self proclaimed diplomatic missions and quits embarrassing himself and the United States?
