The Average Obama Voter

I think it is important to remind people every so often just who it was that voted for Presumptive President-elect Barack Obama.

Here is a video with interviews.  Try to get over the spooky messianic chants at the front.  Remember he is a politician and not a religious cult leader.

Some results of the Zogby poll?

512 Obama Voters 11/13/08 - 11/15/08  MOE +/- 4.4 points

97.1% High School Graduate or higher, 55% College Graduates

Results to 12 simple Multiple Choice Questions

57.4% could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)

81.8% could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)

82.6%could NOT correctly say that Barack Obama won his first election bygetting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)

88.4%could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likelybankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chanceby guessing)

56.1% could NOT correctly say Obama startedhis political career at the home of two former members of the WeatherUnderground (25% chance by guessing).

And yet.....

Only 13.7% failed to identify Sarah Palin as the person on which their party spent $150,000 in clothes

Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter

And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her "house," even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!

Only 2.4% got at least 11 correct.

Only .5% got all of them correct. (And we "gave" one answer that was technically not Palin, but actually Tina Fey)

I believe one factor above all else stands out quite clear from viewing the video and seeing the results of the poll on top of all other observations, anecdotal data, and other reports; MEDIA COUNTS!  Not the type of reporting, but the sheer repetition of campaign ads.  This is a result of campaign donations.  According to The Times Online

"The greatest beneficiary has been Barack Obama, who has raised more than $600 million since he announced his candidacy in February 2007, including a record-breaking $150 million last month alone. It has given him a huge advantage over John McCain, allowing the Democrat to saturate the airwaves.

He is outspending his Republican rival on television advertising nationally by a ratio of four to one, and in some battleground states by eight to one. He can even afford to buy an unprecedented 30-minute, primetime speaking slot on three networks on October 29, six days before the election. "

One could reasonably infer from the above results the respondents did not pay attention to the news at all, but did watch Saturday Night Live or at least heard of the skit in question with Tina Fey.  But, the respondents did pay attention to the TV ads and "reliable news sources" such as National Enquirer.

On a personal level, I had heard from several people Senator McCain had run a negative campaign.  I submit, from the answers above, if true; it was ineffective.  The Biden/plagarism, ballot games, coal industry remarks, Ayers, etc were unknown by 82% +/-2.

This video isn't unusual.  I had seen one other earlier of Howard Stern interviewing voters in Harlem:

Pretty much the same results.  Educated voters.  And lots of them.
