Cabinet position filled. Whoops-No, it's not. CHANGE: Yes, it is
Sounds like the Obama administration is starting off on the right foot.
From NBC's Andrea Mitchell
A senior Obama adviser confirms to NBC News that Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel has accepted the job of Chief of Staff for the Obama White House.
*** UPDATE *** In an email to NBC News, Emanuel spokeswoman Sarah Feinberg denies the reporting that Emanuel has accepted the chief of staff job.
For those that actually believed Presidential-elect Obama meant it when he stated now was the time to work on unifying the country; his choice for his Chief of Staff was Rahm Emanuel, formerly of the Clinton administration. Rolling Stonemagazine had this to say about him when they did a fluff piece on him, "Friends and enemies agree that the key to Emanuel's success is his legendary intensity. There's the story about the time he sent a rotting fish to a pollster who had angered him...And there's the story of how, the night after Clinton was elected, Emanuel was so angry at the president's enemies that he stood up at a celebratory dinner with colleagues from the campaign, grabbed a steak knife and began rattling off a list of betrayers, shouting "Dead! . . . Dead! . . . Dead!" and plunging the knife into the table after every name. "When he was done, the table looked like a lunar landscape," one campaign veteran recalls. "It was like something out of The Godfather. But that's Rahm for you."
UPDATE: Apparently someone didn't get the word or pass a message on. Oh well, you have to expect start up troubles, even from someone with so much experience.....organizing. It's back on again according to the New York Times -
"He informed Mr. Obama of his decision on Thursday morning, saying hewould step down as the fourth-ranking Democrat in the House ofRepresentatives to help guide the Obama administration.
“Now is atime for unity,” Mr. Emanuel said. “I will do everything in my power tohelp you stitch together the frayed fabric of our politics, and helpsummon Americans of both parties to unite in common purpose.”
Ina statement, he added: “Like the record amount of voters who cast theirballot over the last month, I want to do everything I can to helpdeliver the change America needs. We have work to do, and TuesdayAmericans sent Washington a clear message — get the job done.”

Rahm Emanuel is nobody to mess with. A very smart and ruthless man. One can only hope that he soon removes himself thru some gross stupidity a la John Sununu, only worse.
